Best trailerable RIBs from 5 to 7 meters

Buying a RIB without first checking if you can tow it with your car is one of the most expensive mistakes in recreational boating. The manufacturer advertises a dry weight. The dealer talks about a price. No one tells you how much the actual rig you're going to tow on the road weighs, or if your driver's license covers it. By the time the boat arrives at the harbor and you discover that the approved trailer for your model exceeds the maximum authorized mass of your towing vehicle, it's already too late.

This guide compiles the seven best-selling 5 to 7-meter RIB models in Spain and puts them through a filter you'll rarely find in other comparisons: actual ready-to-tow weight, required gross vehicle weight (GVW) for the rig, and the license needed to drive without penalties. It's designed to help you make decisions based on data, not brochures.

We have been distributing marine trailers to individuals and companies throughout Spain for more than fifteen years. We've seen owners change their cars three times before accepting that their dream RIB didn't fit their B license. This is the guide we wish we had for them.

Why is a 5-7 meter RIB the most practical option for trailering?

Rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) combine a rigid fiberglass or aluminum hull with a tubular PVC or Hypalon float. They are more stable than a foldable inflatable, lighter than an equivalent fiberglass boat, and much more comfortable at high speeds in rough seas. This is why they are the category that has grown the most in Spanish recreational boating in the last ten years.

The 5 to 7-meter length range accounts for most of the real demand, according to the main sector comparators (Cosas de Barcos, boats.com). There are three reasons:

  • They fit within the legal maximum authorized mass (MAM) with a B+E license. The car + trailer + boat combination stays below 4,250 kg in most combinations, avoiding the need for a C1+E license.

  • Fits in a garage or plot. A 6-meter RIB on a trailer occupies about 8 meters in length and 2.55 meters in width. This is the largest size that fits into a standard parking space without special permits.

  • Can be launched without a crane. A public ramp or a club slipway is sufficient. This saves €1,500 to €4,000 per year in mooring fees and allows you to sail from different locations every weekend.

Above 7 meters, things change. The beam often exceeds the legal 2.55 meters for road travel without special authorization, the combined weight approaches 3,500 kg, and the required driving license becomes more complicated.

The 7 best 5-7m RIB models for trailering

1. Lomac 580 OK: The lightest and most versatile option

The Lomac 580 OK is probably the easiest RIB on this list to trailer. Only 380 kg dry weight and 5.70 meters in length make it the go-to option for those moving from an inflatable boat and wanting their first RIB without changing cars.

Its OK range is designed for family use, day trips, and as a tender for larger boats. Up to ten people on board, a recommended engine of up to 100 HP, and a price that ranges from €5,900 to €31,000 on CosasDeBarcos depending on equipment (Cosas de Barcos).

For whom: first boat, controlled budget, medium passenger car that can tow up to 1,500 kg with brakes.

Recommended trailer: standard marine trailer with Bunk bunks or light multi-roller.

2. Joker Boat Clubman 19 and 21': Italian stability in a compact length

The Joker Boat Clubman 19' measures 5.60 meters and weighs 400 kg dry. High-performance fiberglass hull, up to 12 people on board, a maximum engine of 115 HP, and a 100-liter fuel tank make it a RIB designed for long excursions without returning to shore to refuel (Nautic Service).

It is highly customizable and ranges widely in price: from €18,000 to €263,000 in its most equipped versions. It maintains its resale value well, according to public data from CosasDeBarcos.

For whom: buyer who values Italian hull quality without moving to larger lengths.

Recommended trailer: Flex-Roll multi-roller to facilitate launching on inclined ramps.

3. Capelli Tempest 600

The Capelli Tempest 600 is the model that Google cites by default when someone asks about the best 6-meter RIB. Its 5.92 meters length, 600 kg dry weight, and capacity for 12 people make it a very balanced option for daily family use (Cantieri Capelli).

It accepts engines up to 140 HP. Its Hypalon Orca 1670 dtex tubes withstand saltwater and abrasion well. It features a large bow sundeck, folding stern tables, and a hull designed for day trips. Advertised prices range from €19,500 to €55,000, placing it a step above Lomac or Joker.

For whom: buyer with a second boat, solid budget, seeking premium finishes.

Recommended trailer: 2-axle Flex-Roll multi-roller.

4. Zodiac Medline 580: the versatile icon

The Zodiac Medline 580 is one of the most recognizable models in its segment. It measures 5.80 meters, weighs 601 kg dry, and can carry up to 1,420 kg of equipment and passengers, according to the official technical documentation published by the brand (Zodiac Nautic).

Its bow area, convertible into a sundeck, is one of its strong points. Up to 12 seats, a 90-liter tank, and a fiberglass hull. Prices range from €10,000 (for older used models) to €96,000 depending on the version and age. It is the most common model seen on day charters in the Mediterranean.

For whom: buyer seeking a recognized brand with an extensive after-sales service network.

Recommended trailer: Flex-Roll multi-roller or Bunk bunks depending on the usual ramp.

5. Maestrale 600 FUN: capacity beyond its category

The Maestrale 600 FUN is the surprise of this list. At 5.99 meters and 600 kg dry weight, it is approved for 14 people, the highest figure in this comparison (Maestrale Boats). Its hull is optimized to tow well even with small engines (it accepts from 40 HP).

It sells for around €43,000 according to Cosas de Barcos. It features a bow sundeck, a folding stern sundeck, and an independent helm seat. It's a difficult-to-beat value-for-money-per-person option in its price range.

For whom: large groups, extended families, light tourist rental.

Recommended trailer: 2-axle Flex-Roll multi-roller (distributed load provides better stability for 14 people).

6. Zar 57 Welldeck: the seaman's choice

The Zar 57 Welldeck is one of the most highly regarded RIBs in the industry when the sea is rough. Its 5.71 meters and 680 kg displacement without an engine are designed to absorb spray and keep passengers dry in tough conditions (ZAR Formenti).

It accepts up to 155 HP, twelve passengers, and a 160-liter tank. Its interior finish is one of the most refined in the segment. The real ready-to-tow weight is around 1,050 kg, so the towing vehicle starts to matter significantly.

For whom: areas with frequent open seas (Atlantic, Mediterranean in winter), buyer demanding a high-quality finish.

Recommended trailer: 2-axle Flex-Roll multi-roller with brakes.

7. Cobra 580 Sport: European production with full customization

The Cobra 580 Sport is manufactured by Cobra Rib Boats, a European distributor with its own customization plant. 5.80 meters, a recommended engine of 90 HP (maximum 115 HP), and Hypalon Neoprene tubes with two color schemes available (Cobra Rib Boats).

Its estimated real weight is between 980 and 1,080 kg, making it one of the heaviest options in the comparison. In return, its customization is the most extensive: from original teak flooring to custom ladders and arches.

For whom: buyer who wants a personal finish and direct contact with the manufacturer.

Recommended trailer: 2-axle Flex-Roll multi-roller.

The manufacturer's weight error: how to calculate the real weight of your RIB

This is the point that no competitor listicle explains to you. The dry weight or empty weight figure published by the shipyard refers to the boat without engine, without fuel, and without equipment. It is not the weight you will be towing.

An analysis published by Semirrígidas Online summarizes it: the official manufacturer's weight can be 30-50% lower than the actual ready-to-sail weight. If you set your expectations based on that figure, you will buy an insufficient trailer or reach the limit of your car's maximum authorized mass (MAM).

Formula for calculating real weight:

  1. Boat's dry weight (official technical data sheet).

  2. + Complete outboard engine (includes casing). A 100 HP 4-stroke weighs around 160-180 kg; a 150 HP 4-stroke is around 220 kg; a 200 HP 4-stroke exceeds 270 kg.

  3. + Fuel at 80% of tank capacity. Multiply liters by 0.75. A 100 L tank 80% full adds 60 kg.

  4. + Standard marine equipment: anchor and chain (15-25 kg), battery (20-30 kg), personal effects and cooler (20-30 kg). Realistic total: 60-80 kg.

  5. + Empty trailer weight. A 6-meter boat trailer weighs between 300 and 500 kg depending on axles and frame.

Example with Capelli Tempest 600 + 115 HP engine: 600 + 180 + 60 + 70 + 450 (trailer) = 1,360 kg towed weight. If your car is approved to tow 1,500 kg with brakes, you're just within the limit. If it tows 1,200 kg, that combination is illegal.

How to choose your RIB based on vehicle, license, and budget

The decision is not made by looking at the shipyard's catalog. It's made by considering three things simultaneously: what your car can tow, what your license covers, and what you want to do with the boat.

Step 1: Check your vehicle registration document

Your vehicle's technical data sheet indicates two key figures: maximum towable mass with brakes and without brakes. Most passenger cars tow between 1,200 and 1,500 kg with brakes; SUVs and off-road vehicles frequently exceed 2,000 kg. This limit takes precedence over any other consideration. It is set by the manufacturer, and the DGT (Spanish traffic authority) does not negotiate.

Step 2: Check your driver's license

With a B license, the vehicle + trailer combination cannot exceed 3,500 kg of maximum authorized mass. The B96 extends this to 4,250 kg. Above that, you need B+E. More details in our guide on the best cars for towing a trailer in Spain.

Step 3: Define usage and budget

What trailer you need: types and differences

A RIB cannot be transported on just any trailer. The choice of frame impacts the hull's lifespan and the ease of launching on a ramp. Three options cover 95% of cases.

Bunk trailer. The hull rests on carpeted bunks. It's the most economical and robust system. It works well if the usual ramp is gentle and the boat stays on the trailer for a long time (winter storage). We cover this type in our boat trailer collection.

Multirodillo Flex-Roll trailer. The hull rests on multiple rotating rollers that reduce friction by half. Essential for long or shallow ramps, where pushing a boat with bunk supports can damage the keel. For boats 6 meters or longer, this is our default recommendation. See Multirodillo Flex-Roll.

Inflatable boat trailer. For small RIBs or auxiliary tenders. Lighter frame, usually single-axle and without brakes when the GVW is below 750 kg. More in boat trailers.

Three details that make a difference after several seasons in saltwater:

  • Hot-dip galvanizing of the frame. Triples the lifespan compared to simple immersion galvanizing. Any serious marine trailer incorporates it.

  • Inertia brake. Mandatory by regulation for trailers over 750 kg GVW. Reduces the braking distance of the combination, according to data from the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.

  • Straps that anchor to the rigid hull, never to the inflatable tube. This is a common mistake: straps in direct contact with the tube will cut through it in a few months.

If you are bringing a sailboat instead of a RIB, consult our guide What trailer do I need for my sailboat.

Common mistakes when buying your first trailerable RIB

We have seen the same mistakes made for years. This list will save you four or five thousand euros.

Buying the boat before the trailer. It sounds obvious, but it's the most common thing. People sign the boat contract and then discover that the approved trailer for that length doesn't fit the car's GVW. The correct sequence is: first car, then license, then a boat that fits that combination.

Relying on the manufacturer's dry weight. We covered it above. Add engine, fuel, equipment, and trailer before signing anything.

Forgetting the legal width. The maximum in Spain without special authorization is 2.55 meters. Most 6-meter RIBs are close to this. Verify with the manufacturer the width with fully inflated tubes, not at half pressure.

Underestimating saltwater. An open sea ramp without being washed afterwards with fresh water will destroy the trailer bearings in two seasons. Maintenance adds €100-€200 per year; it's not optional.

Buying without thinking about resale. Recognized brands (Capelli, Zodiac, Joker Boat, Lomac, Zar) retain their value better in the second-hand market. A cheap, niche brand can be expensive when you want to sell it.

Frequently asked questions about trailerable RIBs

Can a 6-meter RIB be towed with a B license?

Yes, but with conditions. The car + trailer + boat combination cannot exceed 3,500 kg of maximum authorized mass. In practice, light models like the Lomac 580 OK or the Joker Clubman 19 (real loaded weight around 700-730 kg) fit with a car that can tow up to 1,500 kg. For models starting at 900 kg loaded, it's usually necessary to have a B+E license.

How much does a 6-meter RIB weigh ready to tow?

Between 700 and 1,100 kg, depending on the model and engine. Add the empty factory weight + engine (180-280 kg) + fuel at 80% (40-80 kg) + equipment (60-80 kg). The empty weight published by the shipyard is not the actual weight.

How much does a trailer for a 6-meter RIB cost?

A Multirodillo Flex-Roll double-axle trailer for 6 meters ranges between €3,500 and €6,500 depending on the manufacturer, capacity, and equipment. Basic models with bunk supports start at €1,800-€2,500. Verify that it has hot-dip galvanizing and an inertia brake.

Do I need an ITV (vehicle inspection) for the trailer?

Yes, if it exceeds 750 kg GVW. Trailers up to 750 kg maximum authorized mass do not need their own license plate, independent insurance, or ITV. Above that weight, all of the above become mandatory. Most trailers for 6-meter RIBs fall into the heavy trailer category.

What engine does a 6-meter RIB have?

Typically, a 90 to 140 HP 4-stroke outboard. Below 90 HP, planing with several people on board becomes sluggish; above 150 HP, fuel consumption skyrockets without a proportional gain in speed for recreational use. The sweet spot for family use is 115 HP.

Is PVC or Hypalon better for the tubes?

It depends on the use and area. Hypalon (especially the Orca 1670 dtex used by Capelli) better withstands Mediterranean sun, ozone, and hydrocarbons. It's more expensive and heavier. PVC is lighter and more economical, but it ages worse with intense UV exposure. If the boat will be left uncovered all summer, choose Hypalon. If it's stored on a covered trailer or in a garage, PVC works well and saves money.

What is the best value 6-meter RIB?

If the priority is trailering with a normal car, the Lomac 580 OK. If the priority is a premium finish within the segment, the Capelli Tempest 600 or the Zodiac Medline 580. If the priority is rough seas, the Zar 57 Welldeck.

How many years does a well-maintained RIB last?

A rigid fiberglass hull can last 25-30 years without structural problems. The tubes age faster: 10-15 years if exposed to the sun, 15-20 years if stored covered. Trailer maintenance (brakes, bearings, lights) is what limits the lifespan of the entire setup if not done.
