Rafting Boat Trailers
EU type approved stacked transport of rafting boats across Spain
At Remolque.es we build and supply trailers designed specifically for carrying rafting boats (rafts or sport inflatables), both for clubs and outdoor activity companies that move a fleet every weekend and for individual paddlers taking their own raft to the river. Our trailers carry the boats stacked in a single stack on shorter models, or in two parallel stacks on long platforms, making the most of the usable space and cutting logistics costs.
Every model leaves the factory hot-dip galvanised (essential to withstand constant river washing and sediment-laden water), with Spanish registration papers and a 2-year warranty. Why a dedicated rafting trailer
A rafting boat is not a conventional load. Inflated it measures 3.5 to 5 metres long and 1.8-2.2 metres wide, and weighs between 40 and 150 kg depending on capacity (6 to 14 people). Carrying it on a general-purpose trailer creates three specific problems that clubs and private owners spot very quickly:
Not enough width.
A standard cargo trailer with 1.70 m of usable width cannot take stacked 2 m boats without a dangerous overhang. You need wide platforms with 2.00-2.44 m of usable width.
Badly placed lashing points.
Stacked boats need transverse straps running across the whole stack, not scattered points that shift with the sway of motorway driving.
Corrosion resistance.
Painted trailers rust fast in real rafting use: weekly hosing down, river sediment on the axles, permanently damp kit. That is why all our trailers are hot-dip galvanised, with a 15-20 year service life.
Stacked capacity: how many boats fit on each size
This is the calculation that decides the trailer. The standard rafting boat (6-8 people) is around 4 metres long inflated and stacks comfortably with fabric or rubber spacers, with no need to deflate it. The working rule:
Choosing between one tall stack and two parallel stacks is about more than capacity: two stacks spread the weight over the axles better (useful for keeping the gross weight lower with the same payload) and reduce the overall height of the outfit (better aerodynamics, lower fuel use). A 7.8 m trailer with two stacks carries the same as an 8.4 m trailer with a single stack, yet it weighs less empty and is more stable.
Who these trailers are for
Rafting clubs and sports associations.
They need to move 3-6 boats between training sessions and competitions. The typical model is a 5.4-6.0 m trailer with one stack.
Outdoor activity companies and adventure tourism.
They move large fleets in season (the Pyrenees, Cuenca, Murillo de Gállego, Noguera Pallaresa, Sella). They need 6.6-8.4 m with two parallel stacks to carry 8-16 boats in a single trip.
Private paddlers.
One 6-8 person raft plus paddles and kit. A 4.2-5.4 m trailer with one stack is enough.
Schools and sports academies.
Same fleet logic, with more turnover and wear. Galvanising pays off especially well here.
Technical features shared by our rafting trailers
Every model comes with the Remolque.es advantages as standard:
- Hot-dip galvanising of the entire structure, chassis and mudguards included. A 15-20 year service life in intensive real-world use with water.
- 3 mm steel on the platform (against the 1.5 mm standard of other brands), which takes continuous use without deforming.
- Tare weight 15-30% lower than equivalent trailers in the sector, freeing up payload for more boats.
- Type-approved overrun brake on models with a gross weight above 750 kg.
- Spanish registration papers and roadworthiness card ready to go. No extra paperwork in Spain.
- 2-year warranty against manufacturing defects, twice the industry standard.
- Gross weight configurable up to 3,500 kg for large fleets with a B+E licence.
Multi-purpose use out of season
The rafting season in Spain concentrates most of the activity between May and September. A common problem for outdoor activity companies is that the trailer sits idle for half the year. Our platforms are designed to take on other jobs out of season with no modifications: carrying kayaks, pirogues, canoes and paddleboards on the same fabric lashings; carrying mountain kit (bikes, skis, climbing gear); and working as a general load platform for support equipment or sports event stands.
That turns the trailer into a year-round asset rather than a seasonal one, which is decisive for the profitability of an adventure business.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to deflate the boats to transport them?
No. The boats travel inflated and stacked. You only drop the pressure slightly (so they do not suffer in the summer heat), but they keep their shape and volume.
How many rafting boats fit on a trailer?
It depends on the length of the trailer and on whether they are loaded in one or two stacks. As a guide: 3 boats on a 4.2 m trailer (1 stack), 8-10 boats on a 6.6 m trailer (2 parallel stacks), up to 14-16 boats on an 8.4 m trailer. See the table above for the breakdown by boat size.
What licence do I need to tow the rafting trailer?
For a trailer with a gross weight ≤ 750 kg, a standard category B licence. For a fleet of 4 or more boats (typical gross weight 1,500-2,000 kg), a B96 licence. For a large 3,500 kg gross weight trailer, a B+E licence. We work out the exact gross weight for your fleet.
Will the trailer stand up to hosing down and river sediment?
Yes. That is exactly why all our trailers are hot-dip galvanised rather than painted. Galvanising protects against corrosion from damp, salt and sediment. It is the only finish worth recommending for intensive rafting use.
Can I use the same trailer for a kayak or canoe out of season?
Yes. Flat platforms with fabric lashing points take kayaks, pirogues, canoes and paddleboards with no special adapters. Many outdoor activity customers make it pay as a year-round asset.
How much does a rafting trailer cost in Spain?
Guide prices for 2026: 4.2 m trailer with galvanised platform from €3,200; 6.0 m trailer from €4,500; 6.6 m trailer with two stacks from €5,200; 7.8-8.4 m trailer for large fleets from €5,800-6,800. Prices exclude VAT.
